FAQ
What is the thickness of the stone?
Our stone comes in 3cm (1 1/4″) thickness and 2cm (3/4″) thickness and
How much overhang can I have without adding support?
It depends on the stone being used. Natural stone, such as granite, marble, or quartzite, can have up to 12″ overhang without support, while manufactured quartz can have up to 14″ overhang without support.
Unsupported stone is susceptible to cracking or breaking with excessive amounts of weight or stress. We can provide counter balance supports or you can provide your own corbels.
How do I clean my stone?
We recommend using a mild soap and water mixture or ammonia-free Windex. Never use harsh or abrasive chemicals on your stone countertops! These products can strip the sealer off the stone or worse, scratch and etch the tops.
Can my stone stain?
Possibly. It depends on what type of stone you have.
Granite: Not likely to stain, however, prolonged contact with any liquid may leave a spot. However, this spot will generally go away once the stone has a chance dry out. We recommend that you wipe away any spills or other liquids as soon as possible.
Marble: Can stain. Marble is porus and soft, so it can easily absorb any liquid that is spilled on it. Spills or other liquids should be wiped from the surface immediately. When cleaning marble, avoid using products that are acidic or oil based. These can create stains, or even damage the stone.
Quartz: Not likely to stain from contact with liquids. However, contact with extreme heat (hot cookware, appliances, hair tools, etc.) could cause discoloration or warping in the stone.
How do I know when to seal my tops?
Sprinkle water on your countertops and see what it does. If the water beads up, then you do not have to re-seal. If the water soaks into the stone, then it it time to re-seal. We recommend re-sealing your tops once a year.
Will my countertops have a seam?
We try to avoid seams if possible, but it is possible your countertops will have a seam depending on your layout and the size of your stone slabs and/or remnants. Our staff will be happy to discuss placement and layout options to avoid or minimize seams.
What is the turnaround time from template to installation?
From template to the installation, it usually takes anywhere from 3 – 10 days, although lead times ultimately depend on our schedule and the complexity of the job. If you would like an estimate on how long your job would take, please contact us. We’d be happy to give you a timeframe for when your job will be complete.
Is plumbing included with the installation
No, all clients will need to schedule their own plumbers.
How much does stone typically cost?
The cost of natural stone countertops can vary widely, depending on the material, color, and complexity. Consider your budget and the long-term value the countertop will bring to your home when deciding.
